The national security Agency (NSA), the US might be developing quantum-resistant crypto currency, reported Bloomberg Technology journalist William Thorton, who visited the annual Billington CyberSecurity summit in Washington. Thorton wrote:
“The Director of the new office of the NSA on cybersecurity Ann Noyberger says that the Agency will again offer hardware and software standards. He also notes that the Agency is working to create a quantum-resistant crypto-currencies”.
In March 2018 The Intercept, citing secret documents obtained from Edward Snowden, reported that in 2013 the NSA is engaged in surveillance of Internet activity of users of bitcoin in the programme under the code name of OAKSTAR.
For the first time about the formation of the office for cyber security at the NSA, it was announced in July. It is expected that operating activities will begin on 1 October. As the main directions of activities of the organization stated “the prevention of threats to national security and the military-industrial base.”
